Original staging practices

Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival is committed to reviving and educating audiences on Original Staging Practices (OSP), an integral component of Renaissance theatre. By incorporating period-accurate performance techniques-such as universal lighting, minimal sets, and direct audience engagement-FlagShakes ensures that each production offers an immersive and educational experience. This practice fosters a deeper connection between performers and audiences, replicating the way Shakespeare’s plays were originally performed.

To enhance educational outreach, the Mountain Rose will host workshops, lectures, and hands-on demonstrations, allowing students and community members to engage with these traditional methods.

Timber framing and historic preservation

Timber framing is one of the oldest and most enduring construction techniques, exemplifying craftsmanship, sustainability, and historical integrity. The Mountain Rose will feature timber-framed structures built using traditional joinery techniques, showcasing the beauty and durability of this method.

Educational programs will offer hands-on opportunities for visitors to learn about timber framing, from historical applications to contemporary adaptations.

Furthermore, the Mountain Rose Project aligns with broader historical preservation efforts by salvaging components of Utah’s beloved Adams Memorial Theatre. By restoring and repurposing historical elements from the Adams, the project will serve as a living museum, demonstrating the importance of architectural conservation.
